We all know why we are here, a big part of our love for the AR-15 is how modular this platform is and we all want to optimize our firearms to our specific needs.  This list is going to talk about some of the upgrades that we think are the most important to focus on first.  Be sure to leave a comment and let us know if you agree with our recommendations or if you are focusing on different upgrades first.

Precision Triggers: The Heart of Control

A smooth, crisp trigger can make or break your accuracy. If you’re serious about fast follow-up shots and consistent precision, a drop-in trigger upgrade is a no-brainer. We prefer a two stage trigger because we feel we have better control but there is no one size fits all option. That is part of the beauty of TacPack, you get to try out multiple configurations to find what works well for you. In June 2023 we sent a Steel City Arsenal two-stage trigger that we absolutely loved. Super high quality, perfect pull weight, nice crisp break, with and a quick reset. Unfortunately this item is sold out now, but stay tuned because we are working on another project that is sure to impress!

Optics: Fast, Clear, and Ready for Action

We can all agree that everyone needs a set of BUIS that they can rely on. We are partial to the Mission First Tactical BUIS we sent in January 2025.  These things are SOLID! They have a slim profile, flip up design, and are all steel construction. MFT managed to check every box we look for in a set of BUIS that we would run on our weapons.

When you get to optics things get a bit more complicated. In our opinion everyone needs an AR running a red dot and another running a Low Power Variable Optic. In February 2021 we sent the Swamp Fox Liberator 2 red dot. In our opinion Swamp Fox has been crushing it on the cross section of price and quality. If you are looking for a quality LVPO you can’t go wrong with the Bushnell Prime 3×12 40mm scope we sent in November 2024. You get great performance, crystal clear glass, and a price that isn’t going to blow your budget with this optic.

Fine-Tuning for Reliability & Recoil Control

Shooters know that small upgrades make a big difference. Consider these essential mods:

• Die Free Co Kung Fu Grip – To put it simply we are obsessed with this grip. The hand position is just right and the texture provides a great positive connection to the rifle. 
• CMT 11.5” HDM Rail – Light, solid, and for us just the right length. 
• LUTH AR MBA-3 Carbine Stock – You are always going to struggle to shoot well unless you have a great stock. We love how easy it is to customize this stock. It provides all the adjustments we need in order to find a comfortable and repeatable shooting position. 

These tweaks might not be as flashy as a new optic, but they make your rifle feel just right in your hands which is one of the most important things you can do.

The Final Word: Build It Right, Train Hard, Stay Ready

At the end of the day, upgrading your AR-15 is about making it work for you. The right mods turn a standard rifle into a precision tool, but gear alone won’t make you a better shooter—only training will. So, get your build dialed in, hit the range, and put in the work.
